Trading Standards Approved Code of Practice

We are members of the Carpet Foundation to give you added peace of mind. We follow a Trading Standards approved code of practice, the foundation also has a deposit Guarantee scheme (much like the ABTA travel scheme) which guarantees your deposit to up to 50% of the value of your carpet.

The Code of Practice ADR Procedures, approved by the Chartered Trading Standards Institute incorporates the highest retail selling standards and gives you absolute reassurance when purchasing a carpet from a Carpet Foundation Member.

The key features of the Code are:

It applies to carpet sold by a Carpet Foundation Member (excluding rugs), for owner occupied domestic use. It does not apply to buy-to-let, imperfect goods, offices and communal living areas. For any insurance claim please check with your insurer.

Written terms of business must be given prior to the purchase.

The code operates under the terms of the Consumer Rights Act 2015, and the Alternative Dispute Resolution for Consumer Disputes Competent Authorities and Information Regulations 2015.

Verbal estimates of the cost must be supported by a written quotation which will show the total cost.

Deposits of up to 50% of the order price will be protected by The Carpet Foundation.

Free extended 2 year guarantees are provided by Carpet Foundation Patron Members for manufacturing faults and agreed pile reversal.

There is an agreed complaints resolution process and timetable.

A free conciliation service is provided by the Carpet Foundation.

Low cost arbitration is provided.

Carpet Foundation Members are regularly monitored to ensure they do deliver the right service.

There is a non-compliance arrangement to deal with those retailers who breach requirements of the code.

You can find the code on the Carpet Foundation Website
